How to train for Fast CAT?

Training your dog for Fast CAT isn’t just for fun—it’s for those of you who want to see your dogs hit their peak, smash PRs, and climb those coveted breed rankings. It’s about uncovering the speed demon hiding under all that fluff and giving them the chance to shine.

First things first, you’ve got to build that prey drive.

Fast CAT is all about tapping into your dog’s natural instincts to chase and conquer! Start small. Use a flirt pole or a lure toy to get their blood pumping and their focus locked in. You’ll feel the excitement build as they catch on (literally). Got an overachiever? Crank it up a notch with short sprints and quick turns.

Next up, it’s all about conditioning. Think of it like prepping for a 100-yard dash at the Olympics...but for good boys and girls. Regular runs, cardio drills, and backyard play sessions keep your pup fit, fast, and ready to roll. And don’t forget the cool-down—stretch it out, give belly rubs, and keep them limber for the next round.

Now for the game-changer—specialized equipment. Renegade’s fastDOG Lure Coursing Training Machine and Active Dog lure are legit your new secret weapons. These babies are designed to simulate the chase, fine-tune speed, and get those Fast CAT instincts firing on all cylinders. Whether you’re a hardcore trainer or hosting backyard sprints with some doggo friends, these machines will level up your training game.

Bottom line? Training for Fast CAT isn’t just about the run; it’s about bonding, building confidence, and falling in love with the chase. Get out there, fire up those lures, and watch your dog become the sprinting legend they’re born to be. Go ahead—your leaderboard moment awaits!

Here's a quick guide on what machine will suit your training needs.

For an exact replica of a Fast CAT course, go with the Fast Dog or BETA. The beta has longer runtime, and can also do a drag / uptake run. Both have speed control and will cover all breeds and speeds over that short distance.

Or if you just want to keep it short and sweet, and be able to operate in a small yard, go with the Active Dog.
