What is coursing? 

Do you have a dog that loves to run? If so, lure coursing may be the perfect activity for him! Lure coursing is a sport that involves dogs chasing a lure (usually a fake rabbit or another animal) through an obstacle course.

It is a great way to exercise your dog and also teach him how to hunt. In this short blog post, we will discuss what lure coursing is and how you can get started with it! Lure coursing is a sport that was originally developed for hunting dogs.

There's several versions and distances, course shapes, but the method is the same. Chase a lure attached to string line, that is pulled by machine like Renegade loop lure systems. 


The greyhound version is big in the UK, Ireland and Australia. It involves pitting 2 dogs against each other with them wearing a traditional red collar on one dog, and white on the other. 

A series may consist of 3 round for example. With the winner progressing to the next round until a winner is determined after the final. The Waterloo cup is the worlds most famous coursing event with it's knock-out tournament between sixty four coursing greyhounds from Great Britain and Ireland. Australia also has it's version of this event.

Today, coursing is enjoyed by dog owners all over the world as a way to exercise their pets and teach them new skills. The goal of lure coursing is to have your dog chase a lure (usually a fake rabbit or another animal) through an obstacle course.

First, you will need some equipment. In addition to a lure, you will need an obstacle course. There are many different types of courses available online, or you can create your own.

You will also need a lure bag, which is used to carry the lure around the course.

The easiest method to learn about lure coursing is by watching internet videos, then locating a club near you and visiting the AKC website if you're in the US for example, and if you're in Europe, UK or any other part of the world, simply google search for your national kennel club, and you should be able to discover events in your area. Also, many companies sell machines to practice with.

There's also versions such as Fast CAT and Fast DOG. And usa paws sports like drag racing! These are great to get started, and they usually all have fun days to give it a try without any pressure.
